Luis García Plaza Unveiled at Sevilla: "We Must Give the Best Version of Our Lives"
Luis García Plaza has been officially presented as the new head coach of Sevilla FC, taking the reins after his initial training session. He steps in for Matías Almeyda for the remaining nine LaLiga fixtures. Despite the current challenges, García Plaza expressed immense enthusiasm and motivation. His primary goal is for the team to project energy and foster a strong connection with the supporters, a quality he noted was always present when visiting Sevilla as an opposing coach.
"I know the situation, but I have enormous enthusiasm and motivation. I want us to be a team that transmits from day one."
Luis García Plaza
The coach highlighted the urgent need for clear direction and for the team to deliver "the best version of all of us, starting with myself." He expressed confidence in the players' potential, stressing the importance of a positive mindset, self-belief, and dedicated work to help them regain their peak form. He added, "In these nine matches, we have to give the best version of everyone, starting with me, and from there, believe that we can win any game. For me, it is a source of pride to be the coach of this club."
"The team needs a coach who sets a way of doing things, that we are very clear about where we need to go."
Luis García Plaza
García Plaza, who describes himself as a professional, hopes to immerse himself in the club's rich history and aura, eventually feeling "like another Sevillista." He stated that all players will start with a clean slate under his management and that internal competition will ultimately make the squad stronger.
He identified the team's most significant issue as the high number of goals conceded. Therefore, the immediate objective is to "close the goal" and transform into a difficult team to beat, emphasizing that this does not necessarily imply a more defensive approach. As he put it, "We are the team that has conceded the most goals in the category. We have to close the goal as much as we can, and that doesn't mean being more defensive or less defensive, but being a difficult team for the opponent."
"Now, the mind is very important. The mentality has to be very positive, that the players believe in themselves and in what they are doing. We have to give the best version of our lives."
Luis García Plaza
Regarding his playing philosophy, García Plaza prefers the team's performance on the pitch to do the talking but anticipates that the mental aspect is intrinsically linked to tactics and technique. He noted a consistent trend in his previous teams: "I always say there's an undeniable fact in my teams: all second halves of seasons are better than the first. Time and work give you those things."
Finally, he underscored the crucial role of home games. The team must "give" a performance that electrifies the fanbase, creating danger and demonstrating the ability to dominate or compete when domination isn't possible. If the team delivers this, he believes the stadium will become a formidable asset. "This stadium is incredible. We have to ensure people get hooked and earn a lot of points at home."
